Nickel candy!?

Nickel candy? Or Chips!?

Do you remember nickel and dime candy? I really wish it could still exist. Would you think it would be true if I said, it still exists? Well here is your answer… It does! When I went to the little local shop, Lulu’s, I found a ton of candies, chips, chocolate, etc, for only 5-10 rupees! 5 rupees is 6 cents  (USD) and 10 rupees is 12 cents (USD). Before I talk about what I bought, I will share a little bit of info about a very popular nickel candy.

Juicy fruit gum

In l1893 Wrigley introduced Juicy fruit gum. In the early to mid 1900’s Juicy fruit gum  only cost a nickel for 5 sticks of gum. Starting at around 1960 it started to cost a  quarter for 5 sticks. Juicy fruit gum was the most popular in the 1940’s and the 1950’s. Let's start!

1. Chocolate

There is a popular chocolate in India called Dairy Milk, which is a cheap chocolate with prices from just 5 Rupees to 100 Rupees. It is a small chocolate that is like any other cheap chocolate. There is another chocolate called shots, that is very similar to Maltesers , or Whoppers. Guess what the price is? It’s only two Rupees! There are bigger packs that cost ten

Rupees also. Lastly, is Gems. If you’ve read my previous posts, you’ve  probably seen me review Gems before. Gems is like a M&M without the M! They are similar to candy melt chocolate instead of M&M chocolate though. They come in different colors, just like M&M’s.

The price ranges from around 5 to 100 rupees, depending on the size you buy. There are TONS of cheap chocolates around India, but these are the most popular.

2Candy

There are many flavors, variety’s, and textures of candy that go for under 10 rupees. First up are lollipops. Almost every lollipop that is sold in a local supermarket go as low as 5 rupees! Some specific brands are, Chupa Chups, Jolly Rancher, Pim Pom, Alpenliebe, and so much more! When I lived in the US, I didn’t see any lollipops for 5 cents! Next, is toffee and mints. Here in India, I see so many individual options for these at stores. The price usually starts at 2 rupees! Last Halloween, I got around 30 pieces of toffee and lots of mints! The brands that I mostly see selling these are Cadbury, for the toffee, and Centerfruit, for the mints. Also there is a brand just like Juicyfruit, called Doublemint. They sell mostly gum, for only 10 rupees, for 5 sticks! Once again, there are many more different cheap candy options, but these are the ones I listed.

3. Nickel chips?

Yes, I know the title says “Nickel candy”, but there is surprisingly Nickel chips here? I obviously had to include that! This is a very popular chip brand in India, (after Lays) called Bingo. They sell lots of different flavors of chips! Another good thing is that there is actually not too much air in the bag, and you get a decent amount of chips! “Well for 5 rupees anyway”. There are a few more brands, like Too Yumm, Maxvita, and more!
